Biography
Stefania Kuszlik, born in Hannover, studied architecture at the Munich Technical University and subsequently four semesters of art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1980 to 1990 she worked as an artist primerily in painting and drawing. In the following years, from 1991 to 2015, she works full time as an architect for the Munich Construction Board. As of 2015 Stefania Kuszlik is once again a full time professional artist. She lives and works in Munich.
In 1980 Stefania Kuszlik participated in a group exhibition „Kunstaustellung AK68“ in Wasserburg. In 1981, with the support of the „Pschorr-Hackerbräu-Foundation“, she created the kinetic light installation „New York“, exhibited in the „Munich Kunstraum Lothringerstraße“. In 1982 she held a personal exhibition in the Siemens Munich Headquarters at which Siemens acquired several of her paintings. In 1983 Stefania Kuszlik participated in group exhibitions in „BMW Gallerie“, 1988 in „Kunsthalle Alte Ritterwerke“, München – her first computer-controlled light installation – and in 1989 at the Bavarian State Ministry of Employment and Social Order, Munich. In 1992 she received an honorable mention for her painting from the international „Syrlin Art Award“ of the „Kunstverein Stuttgart“. During the same time, 1990 to 2001, as Stefania Kuszlik was exhibiting her paintings in smaller galleries, her artistic animations were being displayed on media boards in public spaces in Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and other towns in the „Ruhrgebiet“ (northern Germany). In 1991 in Leipzig her animations were projected on the largest, at the time, display screen in Europe.
Stefania Kuszliks artistic oeuvre includes animations and paintings, some of which are digitally transformed to create new visual worlds. As of 2013 her animations include short texts. Her art books were exhibited at the Art Books Fair „Super Books“ 2021/22/23 hosted by the renowned Haus der Kunst museum in Munich and at the art book berlin 2022/23. Her artist’s book „speziFISH“ was nominated by the Bavarian State Library for the international artist’s book prize „Prix Bob Calle du livre d’artiste 2023“.

Stefania Kuszlik, geboren in Hannover, studierte nach Abschluss ihres Architekturstudiums an der Technischen Universität in München vier Semester der Malerei an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste. Zwischen 1980 und 1990 setzte sie sich als freischaffende Künstlerin vorwiegend mit Malerei und Zeichnung auseinander. Von 1991 bis 2015 war Stefania Kuszlik hauptberuflich als Architektin für die Stadt München tätig. Seit 2015 arbeitet sie wieder als freischaffende Künstlerin.
Stefania Kuszlik nahm seid 1980 an zahlreichen Ausstellungen teil u.a. in der Jahresausstellung AK68 in Wasserburg. 1981 realisierte sie mit Unterstützung der Pschorr-Hackerbräu-Stiftung die bewegte Licht-Installation „New York“ im Kunstraum Lothringerstraße. 1983 folgte eine Einzelausstellung der Malerei mit Ankauf in der Siemens Zentrale München, 1983 die Teilnahme an Gruppenausstellungen in der BMW-Galerie, 1988 in Kunsthalle Alte Ritterwerke, München (1. rechnergesteuerte Lichtobjekt) und 1989 im Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Arbeit und Sozialordnung, München. 1992 erhielt sie für ihre Malerei eine Anerkennung beim Internationalen Syrlin-Kunstpreis des Kunstvereins Stuttgart. Neben Ausstellungen der Malerei in kleinen Münchner Galerien wurden zwischen 1990 bis 2001 ihre künstlerischen Animationen auf Mediaboards im öffentlichen Raum u. a. in München, Berlin, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Leipzig (auf dem seinerzeit größten Außendisplay Europas, 1991) und vielen Städten des Ruhrgebietes präsentiert.
Stefania Kuszliks Werk umfasst analoge Malerei ebenso wie die Schöpfung digitaler Bildwelten, etwa „Bewegtbilder“ und Animationen. Seit 2013 hat sie ihren malerischen Kosmos durch animierte „Wortspiele“ erweitert. Mit ihren Künstlerbüchern nimmt sie seit 2021 an der Münchner Messe „Super BOOKS“ im Haus der Kunst teil und an der art book berlin seit 2022. Ihr Künstlerbuch „speziFISH“ wurde von der Münchner Staatsbibliothek für den internationalen Künstlerbuchpreis „Prix Bob Calle du livre d’artiste 2023“ nominiert.
